The newly sworn- in President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Engineer Leye Kupoluyi, has assured women entrepreneurs of his readiness to empower them more, through targeted support mechanisms, as the his administration settles down for a two-year term.
Kupoluyi, who was recently elected Chamber’s President and Chairman of Council, at its 137th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held recently, gave the assurance at the Investiture Luncheon held over the weekend in Lagos.
Describing women as constituting the heart of economic growth, Kupoluyi assured of the Chamber’s readiness to always act as a role model for gender inclusion in the nation’s private sector.
He also reiterated the administration’s resolve at strengthening the Chamber’s Young Business leaders’ Group, and launching youth-focused enterprise accelerators.
The new LCCI boss explained that such support had become imperative, since the future of the Nigerian economy rests on the shoulders of her creative, tech-savvy, ambitious, and globally-attuned youths.
Besides building a world class, future-ready Secretariat, Kupoluyi also unveiled plans, by his administration, to invest significantly in capacity building and professional development, by equipping staff of the Secretariat with cutting- edge technology skills in carrying out their duties.
He commended the immediate past president of the Chamber, Gabriel Idahosa, for leaving an indelible mark on the Chamber’s history.
In his remarks, the Chamber’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chief John Odeyemi, described the Investiture as not only designed to celebrate continuity, but also honour leadership, legacy, and the unbroken spirit of enterprise that defines the Chamber.
“Investiture ceremonies are always special. They symbolize renewal. They remind us that leadership is not a possession but a relay baton, passed from one custodian to another, each adding value, each strengthening the institution’s race,” he added.
He, therefore, charged the new LCCI boss on the need to champion the business community with courage, since members rely on the Chamber to vent their voice in the policy ecosystem.
The immediate past president, Gabriel Idahosa, in his remarks, stated that the Chamber had, in the past two years, built on the legacy of his predecessors, strengthened the Chamber’s advocacy impact and improved membership services.
