Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo  has called on  HR professionals to champion a humane, ethical, and future-ready workforce for Nigeria.

 

 

Prof. Osinbajo, who graced the closing ceremony of the 57th Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) Conference, held in Abuja, recently, commended the institute for the giant strides it had made, over the years, in regulating the practice of people- management in the country.

 

 

He, however,  warned that Artificial Intelligence and rapid digital change had already transformed the world of work, thereby shifting the future of work into the present.

 

 

“We must, therefore, continue to reskill and upskill to meet the opportunities of the new world of work,” he added.

 

On ethics and governance, the former Vice-President urged HR leaders to craft clear guidelines for the responsible use of technology.

 

“Ethical and responsible use of technology is critical. HR must ensure this. HR should create clear ethical guidelines to regulate AI,” he said, stressing that HR professionals must embrace data, which should “serve as a tool of empowerment and not control.”

 

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, urged attendees to ensure that ideas exchanged at the were converted into action,  deploying the knowledge  gained from the conference in their various places of work.

 

 

The Conference which recorded a total of  5,019 registered participants,  3,937 in-person delegates and 1,082 virtual attendees, also had 73 members conferred with the institute’s Fellowship at the Gala and Award Night.
